Covario, Inc. is the leading provider of web-based software that helps Fortune 500 & Global 2000 companies maximize customer acquisition and retention on Google, Yahoo and other major search engines.  The company has real products, real customers and real revenues.  We are high-growth, San Diego-based, venture-backed company.

The Director of Public Relations will own the PR function and all media and analyst outreach for Covario.  This individual will execute global programs that include customer campaigns, product launches, industry events and corporate positioning.

This position will report directly to the CMO.

Covario is looking for a seasoned, energetic and proactive individual with search marketing knowledge and an extensive network of media contacts in the digital advertising space.  Candidate must have proven experience building and managing a results-driven public relations program for a high-growth firm in the interactive advertising industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Create an aggressive and comprehensive media and analyst relations plan to drive awareness of the Covario brand.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, clients, and partners to develop and execute media and communications strategies for key product launches and campaigns.
  • Direct all strategic communications related to the Covario brand and business initiatives.
  • Manage Covario client media requirements, working in tandem with client PR teams.
  • Manage corporate blog and social media presence.
  • Secure positive stories in business and trade media.
  • Develop press releases, presentations, briefing documents, media pitches, FAQ's, testimonial sheets and other relevant materials.
  • Handle media inquiries, manage relationships, and clarify corporate positioning.
  • Serve as spokesperson for Covario at press briefings, analyst briefings, industry events, webcasts, tradeshows and executive briefings. (some travel required)
  • Prepare and media train various spokespeople.

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have the following proven experience and characteristics:

  • Outstanding writing and positioning skills, with experience crafting press releases, contributed articles, white papers and media speaking points
  • Track record of writing/developing/pitching great stories that generates interest and response
  • Extensive rolodex of media contacts and industry influencers
  • Demonstrated success achieving PR goals without an agency
  • Experience with Vocus, Cision (Bacon’s Media Map) and/or PR tools  
  • Proven success in a fast-paced, matrixed work environment. Ability to thrive in a dynamic, rapidly changing and highly competitive industry.
  • Strong analytical skills and passion for interpreting and translating quantitative and qualitative data into actionable insights.
  • 10+ years of public relations relations experience — search marketing agency, enterprise software or Software as a Service (SaaS) a plus.
  • Extensive experience managing complex PR programs, developing messaging and delivering measurable results.
  • Excellent project management skills for managing internal and external resources, setting and managing deadlines, and fielding and prioritizing internal and external queries.
