Responsibilities:

The Technical Consultant will report to the Director of Professional Services, with daily project responsibility to one or more Project Managers. The Technical Consultant will be part of the Covario team working with clients to design, develop and deliver web-based software solutions, in a Java and Open Source environment.

  • Defining strategic direction of technical presence within client engagements including choosing appropriate platforms, development environments, languages, tools and protocols.
  • Conducting investigation and research projects, detailing business needs analysis and working with the Software Development team to compare and select appropriate technology platforms and designs for web applications.
  • Regularly interacting with clients, including presenting and explaining complex technical topics and responding to technical questions in a polished and professional manner.
  • Acting as technical lead, with responsibility for task delegation and final quality.
  • Independently designing applications of medium to high complexity, with periodic review by senior technical staff.
  • Independently creating and updating and maintaining both user and technical documentation for projects, including: design documents, technical specifications, data models, information flows, access matrices, content matrices and navigational storyboards.
  • Reviewing code and technical documentation deliverables and providing constructive feedback required by each phase of the development process.
  • Developing, testing, troubleshooting, debugging, launching and supporting large and highly complex web applications with minimal guidance from senior technical staff as needed.
  • Actively contributing to the continuous improvement of the processes Covario uses in creating web-based software solutions for clients, the quality of the work delivered (including both code and documentation), and the culture of Covario.
  • Understanding, researching, and keeping up to date with the latest web-based technologies.
  • Meeting and exceeding expectations regarding schedule, features, quality and personal interactions.
  • Traveling to and working at client sites as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic and superior organizational skills. S/he will possess:
  • 4 years product development experience with the following: Java/JDK 1.4 & 1.5, J2EE, HTML and MySQL.
  • Experience with frameworks and tools such as: Hibernate, Spring, MVC, JSTL, Eclipse, OOP Design patterns.
  • 2 years experience leading a software team on full life-cycle development.
  • Advanced understanding, and at least 6 years professional experience in custom software development, and application design.
  • A BS or BA in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience in Internet technology with a focus on web application design and development technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and build complex web applications.
  • Demonstrated capacity for positive and effective interactions with employees at all levels within the organization, as well as with customers, prospects and vendors.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Experience with budget estimation for internet application development projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
